:: September 11th

On this day, many people are reflecting on where they were and what they were doing 11 years ago when the planes hit the World Trade Centers.  I remember that day clearly.  However, this post isn't about my reflection on that tragic day, it is about how the Lord had brought Super Man and I through some tests and trials since the day I miscarried our baby.

Our Baby "Jacob" was due on September 11, 2011.  I thought the coincidence of the date was very strange, but then again, it was just an estimate so I didn't give it much thought.  Then I miscarried him in late January.  How do we know it was a "he"?  Well, I believe the Lord speaks to all of us even when we don't have to time to slow down and listen, but that day I listened.  I was crying and hurting so I asked Him what He named our baby.  Immediately I heard a gentle response "Jacob".  I even thought to me myself, "Jacob?  A name that had never crossed my mind before."  I told Super Man and we prayed together and thanked the Lord for his short time with us.  And life went on and quickly I found myself expecting again to our now son Isaac - "The Boy Wonder" who was born December 22, 2011.

September 11, 2011 my Super Man began an intensive training in the California deserts for almost 10 weeks.  It was a birth of a new season in our lives involving Crisis Response International.  Though we never had the opportunity to celebrate the birth of "Jacob" the Lord birthed through us a new calling and we haven't stopped seeking and walking in it.  It was the beginning of how we chose the name "A Shade on the Grid".  We are learning about living prepared for time of crisis so that we can be witnesses and a solution in the midst of despair and disaster.  We've committed ourselves into doing whatever it takes to be used by the Lord.  Though it's a long and painful process, we continue to fix our eyes on Him and allow Him to shape and mold us into working and living vessels.

:: Trang's Chicken Soup

Okay, Ladies. Here's my best description of the recipe for you since we never had a recipe for it before...

Medium size chicken or Cornish hen
2 Cups of Rice
Cilantro
Green Onion
Red Onion
Bean Sprout
1 Lime
2 Cubes of Knorr Chicken Flavor Bouillon (optional)
Salt
Pepper

In a large pot, fill it with water till the chicken is completely submerged. Cook the chicken on medium high and you may need to take the stuff that floats to the top out to give you clear broth. When the meat is cooked and cleave the meat off the chicken leaving the bones behind, add 1 or 2 cups of water and continue to cook for another 15-20 minutes to make sure you get all the nutrient all of it.

In the mean time, stir your rice continuously in a separate pan on medium high to make sure the grains don’t get burned. At first the rice will look clear and when all grains turn white then pour into the chicken broth that is boiling. You may choose to skip stirring the rice over the heat before adding to the broth and just add rice in. I like doing this step because it makes the grain opens wide and according to my own opinion, more appealing.

Add the Chicken Flavor cubes if you would like the extra flavor and season to taste. Cook rice for another 15 minutes or until all the grains opened wide. Stir rice occasional to make sure it doesn’t stick to the bottom and burn. Reduce heat once you think it’s ready!!

Wash cilantro, green onion and bean sprouts and let drain all water. Mince cilantro and green onion together. Cut the white chicken meat that you set aside earlier in bite size. Cut red onion in thin strips. Cut lime into wedges. Now you’re ready to prep your bowls of deliciously healthy chicken rice soup!

In bowl, place bean sprout on the bottom, ladle in your chicken rice soup, add chicken slices and garnish with minced cilantro, green and red onion. Sprinkle in some black pepper, squeeze some lime to enhance the flavor and enjoy!!

At our house, we top our soup with fried dehydrated shallots that you can purchase in a jar at the Asian markets. But you don’t have to do that if you don’t want to. For seasoning, I don’t always use Knorr Chicken Flavor Bouillon because I use fish sauce which is also available at any Asian markets. And we love adding in some chilly pepper sauce to kick our taste buds. If your soup is thicken, just add a little water and make it soupy as desired.

:: Month Eight

Dear Isaac,

You are eight months old today. I can proudly say I've never missed a single day in your life. The Lord allowed me to work and be with you at the same time and it was wonderful. Now I'm in a new season I'm thankful that I can truly devote my time and energy into you and Big Sister. I pray that we get to know each other better and that I could lead you both with great examples and character. You're such an awesome baby. You're quiet and joyful at the same time just like your Daddy. You can now reach over the counter top so I need to make sure our bathrooms are always cleaned. There's not a space in our home that you haven't discovered. You've mastered your stair climbing skills. I've caught you letting go a few times and stood on your own! And you love to eat with only 2 teeth.  You're always staying by my side! I looked at you today and saw a little boy instead of a baby. It makes me sad that you're not slowing down, but I'm so proud of all you've achieved. I'm pretty sure I heard you say "Hi" and "Momma." So, I look forward to this new season to learn about you and help you develop your gifts and talents, even at this early age. I love you so much, my Boy Wonder!

:: Introducing the House of Warriors

Ever since I created this new blog, I've been wanting to give each person in our family an alias.  I don't know why I kept wanting to do so and then it dawned on me one day that we are meant to be prayer warriors - each and every one of us!  We are here to interceed, stand in the gap, and cry out to our Heavenly Father for justice, mercy, and His return.  It has been a long mission since Danner and I commited to raise our family to live by prayers and intercession.  We've given up much and received much more and it's been so worth it!

I started calling Danner "Superman" because he's just a super person!  He's so smart, gentle, compassionate, funny, witty, well-liked, genuine, servant-hearted, hot, handsome, did I say hot already?  Seriously, he can listen so well and love so well.  He reminds me of the picture of Jesus sometimes.  Maybe not quite, but very close.  He makes me want to be a better person overall.  Sometimes I'm jealous of how he's being able to listen any teachings and can recite them without troubles or how he loves people.  He's always reasonable.  I can always come to him with a ball of mess and he'll help me untangle them and set me straight on my path.  He loves his children and truly leads them well.  He is the man!  I can keep go on and on about him, but I'm sure you catch the drift that he's just a super duper person!

Allison, I think I will keep calling her "Baby Doll".  It's a special name Danner's late grandparents called her since she was born.  She's the only girl out of the five great-grandchildren and she's extra special.  I wanted to give her a super hero name but nothing seems to fit her right.  The name is so endearing to me so I feel like it should stay.  But don't be fooled by her super powers though.  She is quite smart for a four years old.  She can do a very nice karate kick and is quick like a ninja!   She is light on her toes at the same time and can sure dance!  She can catch just about any critters outside although she understands I don't always appreciate them being brought into the house.  She can create the biggest hurricane in the livingroom without being asked.  Haha.  She has a big heart like her Daddy.  She cares about many things and loves "dark red".  She wouldn't eat egg yolks because they're not her favorite color!  Silly girl!  Her favorite topic at meal times is about God.  She wants to know everything about Him and questions everything she hears.  She has gifts that need to be tune and shaped for the full purpose of His calling.

Isaac, ah, my sweet boy!  His name is "The Boy Wonder"!  His Daddy calls him that.  He is just overall wonderful, sweet, loving, friendly, doesn't know a stranger.  His heart is like gold and can make yours melt like butter.  He is as fast as lightning!  He can follow his big sister every where on all four!  He's very daring.  Though he's only seven months old, he's been attempting to stand, reach for things that are too far out of reach.  The cool thing is that his entire nursery is a comic book theme!  His Daddy gave him all of his childhood comic figures and books.  Even his name is made with sounds (I'll just have to share this on another blog post).  He is a warrior boy!  He loves to play wrestle with his Daddy and Sister.  Mommy doesn't appreciate that too much when he tries to pound me.  He loves music and hears me pray.  He is often with me at the microphone on the stage prayer leading.  Someday when he finds his voice, I know he'll pray and the heaven will render.

Our dog Colby, yes, he has to have a name too!  He is "Krypto" because he is super close to Danner.  He adores him.  As soon as Danner sits down anywhere Colby would right by his side, even laying in his lap like his own baby.  He's the strangest dog I ever know so the name is quite fitting for him.

Finally, Danner gave me Ms. Marvel.  I don't know his reason, but I like the name.  ;-)

Our family have dedicated ourselves in areas of preparedness.  Danner is a trained responder with Crisis Response International.  He is so good at what he does.  He even works at the ER because he loves helping people in their time of distress.  We are trying to be as sufficient as we can with what we have and good stewarts of the Lord's blessings.  I'm learning to be a better homemaker, homeschool teacher, an intercessor, and supporter of orphans and widows and those who foster care and adopt.  We feel called to someday go out on mission fields training and preparing people for crisis response.  This is who we are.  We are a house of warriors.

:: Laundry Room

Late one evening while the entire family was sound asleep and I thought of this idea for my laundry sorting system.  We've been encouraging Baby Doll to help out more around the house and she's been terrific at putting hers and little brother's dirty clothes in separate hampers from white, colors to dark.  My original hampers were all crammed into a small laundry room that I just couldn't help but wonder if there was a better way.  I'm trying to do a small load a day (still struggling) so I don't end up being burried under Mt. Laundry once a week.  I couldn't sleep after this idea came to mind after seeing a few neat ideas on pinterest but had to wait a few days when Superman had a day off.  Finally that day came when we went to Lowe's to pick up materials for a few projects we wanted to work on.  I took the opportunity and sneaking away with the 7 months old down the shelves and storage aisle.  I spotted the brackets right away and was excited that the brackets were within my small budget.  I borrowed a Lowe's laundry basket, with baby at the hip and measured it with the brackets and they were perfect size!  I was so excited I hurried up to the register where Superman was waiting patiently with Baby Doll.  I walked out of the door beaming with a purchase of $7.76 for four brackets.

We came home, bathed, and sent the kiddos to bed and then I revealed my great plan to Superman.  He wasn't too thrill that I asked him to help me with this project at 8:30pm!  But he loves me and did it anyway!  Thank you, Love!!  Here's the confusing part.  We quickly ran into a problem.  The spot on the wall I wanted the baskets to be only have one stud that we can nail the brackets to so Superman asked me what I wanted to do about it since the plan wasn't going to work out.  I was so disappointed but I don't give up easily so I just had to figure out a way!  So, back to the drawing board I went.  Suddenly, an idea came to mind - I asked Superman to nail a nice and sturdy piece of board onto the stud to give it some stabiltity, then nail the brackets to the board and voila!!  It worked!!  The brackets are sturdy and can hold up a heavy basket.  Superman knows me too well that he had them spread so far above each other because I always forget to do laundry! ;-)  They are also at good a height that Baby Doll can reach without problems.

One thing I should have considered was the height of the board as it is showing above the top basket.  But, I have an idea I want to try...like tying a string across with a few clothespins for those socks that are without mates or more laundry tips.  Overall, I am very pleased with the small budget and short amount of time we invested in this project.  The board and laundry baskets we've already had so the total cost was $7.76!!!

:: Starting Fresh

Hello, everyone!!  Welcome to A Shade on the Grid!  As you can see this is still a work in progress.  When I decided to start a new blog, I forgot how much time and effort it takes to start over again.  Choosing the right background, colors, fonts, etc. is taking forever!  Not to mention our profiles and who we are and what on earth we are planning on blogging about.  So, please be patience with me while I work out the little details to make this blog more fitting for our family.

Mean while, if you are interested in reading my posts from my previous blog, you can read them here.  :-)   Be sure come back and check out my posts about food, crafts, family life, and most importantly how we walk with the Lord as a family.  Blessings!!!
